How to Adjust & Reset Waterson Soft Close Hinges

Reset to Factory Setting

In the event of performance issues, we recommend resetting your Waterson self close door hinges to their factory setting.  Please use the following steps to complete a reset:

1) Release Tension

Using a 5mm hex wrench on the numerical panel, push down and turn the () symbol to N position. (see photo below)

2) Release Swing Speed

To adjust the swing speed, check the bottom end of the hinge.

  • Using a 3mm hex wrench, loosen the lock-in side screw.
  • Using a 5mm hex wrench, rotate the swing speed control nut from the (-) to the (+) direction.

To disengage the swing speed control, turn the swing speed nut until two threads are out.

3) Release Latch Speed

To adjust the latch speed, check the bottom end of the hinge.

  • Using a 3mm hex wrench, loosen the lock-in side screw.
  • Using a 5mm hex wrench, rotate the swing speed control nut from the (-) to the (+) direction.

To disengage the latch speed control, turn the swing speed nut until two threads are out.

 

4) Release Hold-Open

To adjust the hold-open mechanism, check the bottom end of the hinge.

  • Using a 3mm hex wrench, loosen the lock-in side screw.
  • Using a 5mm hex wrench, rotate the hold-open control nut from the (-) to the (+) direction.

To disengage the hold-open mechanism, turn the hold-open control nut until two threads are out.

5) Reset Hydraulic Zone

Note: for the hydraulic hinge, use a 3mm hex wrench to control the hydraulic damper and use a 5mm hex wrench to adjust the hydraulic zone.
To adjust the hydraulic zone, check the upper end of the hydraulic hinge.

  • Using a 3mm hex wrench, loosen the lock-in side screw.
  • Using a 5mm hex wrench, hex wrench turn the hex nut to (-) direction.
  • Using a 3mm wrench to tighten the lock-in screw.

This will reset the hydraulic action zone to its factory setting.

6) Hydraulic Damper Adjustment

To adjust the hydraulic damper, check the upper end of the hydraulic hinge.

  • Using a 3mm hex wrench turn the hex nut to (+) direction.

7) Final Checkpoint

At this point, the door should swing freely with no resistance, as if using a normal hinge.  If you still feel any resistance when swinging the door by hand, resolve the door conflict first before proceeding. If there are no issues, you can continue with hinge adjustment.
