Project Description

La Jolla Shores Hotel is a beachfront property at 8110 Camino Del Oro, La Jolla, CA 92037, offering guests a classic coastal retreat steps from the Pacific Ocean. Near the end of a construction phase, the project team needed self-closing hinges for a series of arch doors throughout the property. Each door measured 1-3/4″ thick, 6’8″ tall, and 36″ wide, weighing approximately 140 to 145 lbs. The oceanside location added a critical layer of complexity: prolonged salt air exposure eliminates standard hardware finishes, which makes a marine-grade specification essential.

Waterson recommended the K51M-450 self closing hinges in 316 marine-grade stainless steel. The 316 alloy delivers superior resistance to chloride and salt-spray corrosion, making it the right long-term choice for a property directly on the waterfront. To handle the door weight and dimensions, Waterson specified a three-hinge-per-door set for even load distribution and consistent self-closing performance. All hinges within a set must come from the same product line and not be mixed with other brands, as the self-closing function is calibrated as an integrated system, ensuring the arch doors perform reliably in a high-traffic hotel environment.
