Project Description
At The Creek, a project located in the scenic environs of Long Island Beach, NY, the challenge was about meeting stringent technical specifications. The project involved the installation of two distinct pool gates, each requiring precise gate gap calculations and the integration of ADA-compliant 316 pool gate self-closing hinges. These specifications were not just a matter of safety compliance but also a testament to the project’s commitment to durability, functionality, and design excellence.

Frame Sizes and Gate Gap Requirements
The client presented a unique set of requirements: two pool gates with differing aluminum frame sizes – one with a 2”x2” frame and the other with a 3”x3” frame. Both gates were to be fitted with glass rails, demanding a delicate balance between robustness and visual appeal. The pivotal concern was to determine the maximum permissible gate gap, given the minimum specified gap of 0.275 inches, crucial for ADA compliance, self-closing mechanism, and the seamless operation of the gates.
Tailoring Pool Gate Safety with Precision
Waterson 316 hydraulic pool gate self-closing hinges conduct maintains a consistent and stable ratio in accordance with these quality features:
The technical team then embarked on a meticulous calculation for the maximum gate gap. This calculation counts the distance between the gate closer screws (2.758 inches) and subtracted the thickness of the post to determine the maximum feasible gap. The gate hinges were recommended in both 2-closer and 3-closer configurations, giving the adaptability for gates with different sizes and weights.
Waterson Hydraulic Pool Gate Self Closing Hinges
Waterson Hinges combine an overhead hinge into one attractive component with optional hold-open and door-stop features. The hinges are ideal for commercial openings, gates, and glass doors. These hinges are easily installed and adjusted to comply with ADA & ICC A117.1 requirements for opening force and to assure quiet, secure closing. Made with stainless steel, Waterson hinges meet NFPA 80 and are UL 3-hour fire-rated, as well as being suitable for both interior and all-weather exterior openings. See all our features.
