Project Description
This project is a barn door hydraulic hinge retrofit at Smithfield, one of the world’s largest pork producers located in Yuma, Colorado. The facility runs 14 heavy duty barn doors under negative pressure conditions, which pulls doors closed with extra force and increases slamming. The team needed to slow the closing and latching speed across all 14 doors without adding spring loaded closing hardware, which wears out faster under constant negative pressure.
Waterson recommended a set of three HA hydraulic hinges per door, the same configuration the Smithfield team had already field tested and confirmed solved the slamming problem completely. The HA hydraulic hinge uses an internal hydraulic mechanism instead of a spring, giving each door smooth, adjustable closing speed that holds up under negative pressure and repeated daily use. This setup reduces wear on the doors and frames from slamming, delivers a secure, consistent latch every time, and removes the need for spring tension that degrades over time.
