Self Close and Soft Close Serve Two Different Jobs
Self close means the door always ends up shut, with no hand force needed. Required on fire doors, pool and safety gates, and any opening that must not stay open. Waterson offers two types of self closing:
- Mechanical (Set A, C): A spring and mechanical speed control close the door at the speed you set.
- Hydraulic Hybrid (Set B, D): The same mechanical system plus hydraulic damping, so the door also closes softly and absorbs wind or hard pushes.
Soft close means the door never slams. Wind or a hard push is absorbed, so the door slows down instead of banging.
Unlike a basic spring hinge, every Waterson self closing set pairs the spring with speed control, so it does both.
