  • close by itself with no user action
  • latch by itself once closed

Exact heights and clearances are what the inspector measures, and local jurisdictions can amend administrative provisions, so confirm current dimensions with your AHJ before building to them.

The second item on that list is that the gate has to travel fully into the latch from any starting position, including from two inches open, which is where most gates are released by someone walking through with their hands full.
