Recently, Waterson addressed a special challenge when a client wanted our heavy-duty 4.5″ hydraulic door closers with Wilson aluminum jambs. The main issue stemmed from the larger barrel size of the old closers, which did not align well with the jambs’ flush casing. This resulted in the hinge leaves not fitting properly, complicating the installation and affecting door functionality.
Solution Implemented
To solve the specific installation challenges, Waterson responded with customized hydraulic door closers, specifically designed with a 4.5” x 5” dimension. This customization ensured compatibility with the aluminum jambs, resolving the initial issue where the flush casing prevented the door closer leaves from fitting properly. The door closer adjustments made to the closer leaf allowed it to adapt to the jamb structure fully, ensuring a seamless installation.
Hydraulic Door Closer Exceptional Features
Waterson hydraulic door closer incorporates several exceptional features to enhance door functionality and user experience:
- Door Stop Mechanism: Prevents wall damage by controlling the door swing.
- Hold Open: Allowing doors to remain open as needed.
- Fire-rated: Meet NFPA 80 and are UL 3-hour fire-rated.
- Hydraulic Action Zone (HAZ): The hydraulic mechanism decelerates door closing speed within the final 30°, ensuring safety and quiet operation.

- Buffering Feature: Provides further control over door closing speed, ideal for doors that open ≤ 120° and operate in environments above 32°F (0°C)
